A letter from a dear friend is opened with joyful anticipation while a letter from a stranger is
opened with suspicion.
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

A message from the Lord is received with joy by those who see the Lord as a Dear and Precious
Friend.
¶For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,
Psalms 95:7
The same message is eyed with suspicion by those who are strangers to the Lord.
Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
Matthew 13:13
The voice of a dear friend brings joy to the heart of the hearer while the voice of a stranger puts
the hearer on guard.

Likewise, those who see God as loving Father delight in His inspired words and look forward to
His coming.
