All hope is gone and our strength is dried up and we have been utterly vanquished.

Our bright light has been extinguished and we live in dire fear of our lives.

These were some of the thoughts of hopelessness and discouragement the Apostles experienced on the day after Jesus's crucifixion.
As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. Job 7:9

Their hope was dashed into a million pieces.
He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree. Job 19:10

Never in their whole lives had they felt so defeated.
And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it? Job 17:15

Tears of mourning were in their eyes because the wonderful man they had grown to love so deeply was dead.
"What are we going to do now?" one apostle would ask of another.
They all planned to return to their old jobs and ways.

Mark 16:9  Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
10  And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
11  And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

Then at the crack of dawn on the third day Jesus Christ arose from the dead!
And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. Mark 16:6

He is Risen!  He is Risen was now their cry.
Matthew 28:5  And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6  He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
7  And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
