A new commandment by which all men will know you are true disciples of Jesus Christ.
Jhn 13:34
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Jhn 13:35
By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Because iniquity does abound in these last days the love of many Christians for each other and for God the Father has virtually disappeared altogether.
Mat 24:12
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Coldness of heart has replaced warm hearted love and mercy is virtually non existent.
Rev 3:16
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Mercy is an act of kindness done toward another with warm hearted love.
God desires us to live by mercy and not sacrifice.
Sacrifice is a kind act done without warm feelings of heart.
Hsa 6:6
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Mat 9:13
But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Mat 12:7
But if ye had known what [this] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

Do not replace love by religious tradition and do not become so religious that you forget to love one another.
2Ti 3:1-5
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

God looks at the heart and not your actions.
1Sa 16:7
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
